The School of Applied Sciences which formed the basis of Başkent University Commercial Sciences faculty was founded in the academic year 1999-2000. It consisted of Banking, Insurance and International Trade departments and in the 2000-2001 academic year, Accounting, Tourism, Hotel Services & Tourism Guidance and Management and Information systems departments were added to the faculty.
In the 2001-2002 Academic year, the Accounting department was renamed Accounting and Financial Management and the Insurance department was renamed Insurance and Risk Management. The foundation of our Commercial Sciences faculty was completed with decision number 2004/8254 that came from the Board of Ministry on the 4th of January 2005, and was declared in the Official Newspaper number 25690 and came into effect immediately. In this respect, the School of Applıed Sciences at our University was closed, and the existing students and academicians were transferred to the Faculty of Commercial Sciences.
The main aim of the Başkent University Faculty of Commercial Sciences is to raise individuals who will understand the applications, needs and developements in their future field; and who are creative, able to solve problems and innovative.
The departments in the Faculty of Commercial Sciences provide undergraduate programs over 4 years. The programs within the departments were prepared to meet the criteria forseen by their targeted industries. The departments within the faculty work closely with each other to provide the optimum educational experience for the students. In the first two academic years, after common modules; the students continue their education by taking specific classes according to their related departments.
The academic programmes are supported by the cooperation of the University and the related industries through on-the-job training and a summer internship program. Foreign languages and computer literacy are important factors of nurturing individuals for the information age, as such, they are heavily incorporated into the bases of each program.
