Baskent University is fully aware of the fact that one of top priority missions of tertiary education in Turkey is to train qualified teachers. Bearing this in mind, the faculty of education and the institute of educational sciences were opened, and field-based secondary teacher education master's programs without thesis were operated with the goal of meeting the existing teacher requirement in the fall semester of the 2002-2003 academic year for the first time. Since then, the programs in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, history, and Turkish literature and language teacher education have been functioning. These are three semester and one year programs.
Furthermore, the master's programs with/without thesis in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Administration and Supervision have been enrolling students so as to train scholars for the universities and educators for the schools under the Ministry of Education since 2004-2005 academic year. The master's programs with thesis in Preschool Teacher Education, Elementary School Mathematics Education, Science Teacher Education, and Turkish Language Teaching also started to enroll students in the same academic year. Baskent University has already been using every means available in order to train qualified educators who embrace Atatürk's principles and revolutions wholeheartedly. The University also aims at training hardworking, constructive and creative educators who can catch up with the scientific and technological developments considering the specific needs of Turkey.
