1st Week Introduction to the course
2nd Week Unit 1 LEARNING Academic Focus: Presenting factual information,1A Listening and speaking: Understanding main ideas in a presentation,noting down key information, identifying questions asking for information,and asking questions for further information
3rd Week 1B Reading: Understanding a text, understanding factual information,identifying statistics and time references 1C Writing: Simple sentences, and compound sentences
4th Week 1D Vocabulary: Using academic vocabulary, and vocabulary building (identifying verbs and nouns)1E Academic Language Check: Present and past simple and progressive forms, writing simple sentences, and writing compound sentences
5th Week Unit 2 SYMBOLS Academic Focus: Defining and explaining 2A Listening: Listening for the main and supporting ideas in a lecture,understanding spoken definitions, and defining and explaining a simple concept in a seminar discussion
6th Week 2B Reading: Identifying definitions and explanations in a text, identifying the language of simple definitions and explanations, and understanding meaning from context 2C Writing: Simple definitions and extended definitions
7th Week 2D Vocabulary: Collocation verbs 2E Academic Language Check: Definitions and explanations and definitions using defining words and phrases
8th Week Unit 3 ETHICS Academic Focus: Describing and explaining 3A Listening and speaking: Understanding the main idea and supporting details in a presentation, noting down examples in a presentation, describing a concept, asking for repetition and clarification
9th Week 3B Reading: Understanding a descriptive text, recognizing the use of description in a text, and understanding noun phrases in descriptions 3C Writing: Sentences using articles and sentences using noun phrases
10th Week 3D Vocabulary: style and collocations 3E Academic Language Check: Noun phrases
11th Week Unit 4 FACTS Academic Focus: Comparing and contrasting 4A Listening and speaking: Understanding comparison and contrast in a lecture, giving a short presentation referring to visual information, and comparing data in a short presentation
12th Week 4B Reading: Understanding the main idea and specific details in a text, identifying the language of comparison and contrast and understanding comparison and contrast in a text 4C Writing: Writing connected sentences and describing visual data
